Google’s new Project Tango

Google has just unveiled this incredible research they are undertaking with ETHZ CAAD. Thanks to a tweaked Android device, they were able to 3D render a room with pictures. The map so created can be explored and since all dimensions are actually real dimensions, you can even measure it, stitch stuff on the walls and so on.

No wonder Google will invest a lot on these kind of technologies: it has been mapping our world since google maps, eventually evolved in a full 3D google earth. Now, you can even have a “3D Home” and never lose your car keys anymore.

To achieve this, the phone simply uses its camera and its motion sensor. The algorithm combines the data and the output is a staggering perfect 3D rendered space, completely up for you to walk in.
