A very comprehensive book on form finding and optimization in architecture, it collects several works by emerging researchers in the field along with others. Sigrid Adriaenssens, Philippe Block and Chris Williams investigate well-known architectures such as the roofing for the inner courtyard of the Maritime Dutch Museum or the Queen Elizabeth II courtyard in the British Museum.
The world renewed ITKE, Faculty of Architecture, is about to close its cv submission on the 15th of February. The master is named Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research is headed by Prof. Eng. Jan Knippers, and focuses on complex architecture, fabrication and parametric modeling. I created a simple Grasshopper definition, to panelize free form surfaces!
In the example above, I’m panelizing my master’s thesis project: a glass and steel roof. First of all, the mesh is optimized so to decrease the average curvature in both directions, then another algorithm defined a set of molds which are used to make all the glass panels.
A very useful paper on that matter can be found here, by Michael Eigensatz.
Patrik Schumacher has just released a video on the beauty of parametricism. Continue reading
